‘Blackbird singing’

I love this plate!! Designed when I couldn’t go to choir and I knew they were singing the beautiful song ‘Blackbird’ by Paul McCartney I felt a yearning to join in and was inspired to create this piece. The little stars in the background are a nod to the fact that it is night time.
Birds singing out foliage and flowers is a recurring theme for me and here we see a blackbird singing out some spring flowers and leaves. I used black slip to decorate this piece and scratched into the design using sgraffito tools.
